Good Times in Jan 2011

Early in January we took our annual squid fishing trip to Seattle with of course one touristy trip to Pike Place Market and a coffee at the original Starbucks. This year a friend of Sara's from high school met us there for the weekend.

Jude taught us how to make our own jigs this year. Though we didn't fare any better than we did with last years over sized Fred Meyer Jigs, it was a fun project. This year's Paella included squid from Pike Place flying fish market which was, to our surprise, considerably more affordable than the jigs themselves.

Super Bowl!
For this year's Super Bowl party I decided to mix it up a bit. Instead of nachos, hot dogs, chicken wings and other 'Merican fare, we tried our hand at learning how to cook Indian Cuisine. That's right, this year's menu included: Daal, Tikka Masala, Vindaloo, Sag Paneer (with home made cheese), Indian Curry and some fantastic deserts like Kheer, Kalva, and Burfi.

A triumph!

The Actual Super Bowl Party. With all that food we had to have a lot of Guinea pigs...I mean we needed to throw a big party. Though we didn't have a large crowd of Cheese Heads most of us were familiar with cheering for a football team in Green and Yellow so we were all thrilled with the out come. In the mean time we ate some great Indian, drank a bunch of delicious home made hard cider and played lots of ping pong.

Taking advantage of some sunny days on Mount Pisgah. We had a really dry and often sunny January. Here is a shot of Dawn, Gary and I at the Pisgah Summit and Gary and I along the trail.

Bottling a barrel of wine with my friends Sherry and Bri. Oh, and doing a little tasting too, of course!
